A Message from Friends of Douglass-Greene Park

Please read this initiative from The Friends of Douglass-Greene Park (FoDGP) and some exciting events listed below!

Thomas Greene Park in Brooklyn’s Gowanus neighborhood occupies the full block bounded by Third Avenue, Nevins Street, DeGraw Street, and Douglass Street. This is the only City park central to the residents of Gowanus, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and northwestern Park Slope.

The Friends of Douglass-Greene Park (FoDGP) will steward the creation of a green zone, with Thomas Greene Park as the center of recreational and environmental educational uses from which the area’s future development will take context. On behalf of the communities of interest surrounding the Park, FoDGP has staked their claim to expand area uses consistent with these goals, including the creation of greened streetscapes, Gowanus Canal street ends and revitalized, contextual uses of the area’s historic properties. FoDGP envisions that the park will become a greener, more inviting place for all sorts of recreation, from cooling off in the pool in summer, to enjoying a skate park, to sitting in the shade of new trees, to taking in cultural and educational events in a new community center. It will be a place of connections among communities; a place in which every resident can take pride.

Bringing neighboring communities together to shape a common vision for the park’s future and to be the stewards of a re-imagined and revitalized park. The Friends of Douglass-Greene Park will foster new, creative partnerships among communities and with the public and private sectors.
