Message From The Principal

My mom said that I have wanted to become a teacher since I was six years old. I don’t remember wanting to do anything else! Everything that I have done has revolved around educating children. They are my first love, my passion. I began my career twenty years ago, right out of college—teaching third grade. Having been an immigrant child, I understand the need for children to receive a great education, because that is what changes your circumstances.

We have adopted a new mission statement that demonstrates what we believe as a school community: One Vision, One Voice: Empowering Our Leaders of Today for Tomorrow. We have spent the past two years learning how to become Highly Effective People by practicing the 7 Habits that Leaders demonstrate. Stephen Covey’s quote coins it best, “Leadership is communicating to people their worth and potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves”. Furthermore, he says that “leadership is a choice, not a position.” At PS 133, we too have adopted this mindset. We choose to be the best leaders we can be, regardless of our grade level, and/ or our position. How do we do this? By: Being Proactive; We Begin With the End in Mind; We Put First Things First; We Think Win –Win; We Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; We Synergize; and We Sharpen the Saw.

At PS 133, we want children to grow up to be responsible, caring, compassionate human beings who respect the world they live in and know what to do when faced with a difficult decision. What better way to do this, than by instilling the principles of the 7 Habits. We recognize that we can be leaders if we consciously and systematically make appropriate choices both as an individual and as a member of a community. Ideas must be valued and respected, and children must always be at the core of our mission. When you come to PS 133, that is the essence of what you feel, of who we are. Children are given opportunities to demonstrate leadership each and every day.
